The Audi R8. Starting out in 2006 and becoming instantly successful due to its driveability and easiness to live with on a daily basis, unlike most other supercars. In 2015 the all-new R8 came out and what a car it is…
I mean, just look at it, stunning from every angle. The gaping honeycomb front grille, the laser-like headlights and aerodynamic fins underneath all scream aggression! Moving to the side, you’ll see some really drastic but beautiful body lines directing air into the carbon side vents to cool that monster under the glass… And finally the rear, quad rectangular exhaust pipes, more grilles with aero fins, a beautiful full carbon fibre spoiler and one of the most insane rear diffusers on the market! It’s a work of automotive art and it only gets better from here…
Audi’s lower-end car interiors are lovely as it is so when they made this supercar, they knew they had to step it up a notch… Gorgeous Nappa leather sports seats, a perforated flat-bottomed multifunctional steering wheel with a bright red ‘Engine Start’ button that awakes the beast behind your seat. Aluminium shifter paddles, a lovely set of rubber topped sports pedals and the matte carbon inserts scattered around look fantastic. But the best part of the interior is definitely the driver’s dash. “Virtual Cockpit,” is Audi’s name for it and it’s a full HD infotainment system that’s completely customizable. The navigation tab actually shows a google map image of where you are! You can see pretty much anything you want, projected right in front of you so you never have to take your eyes far from the road. It’s the most advance gauge cluster technology in the car market today.
Now onto the ridiculous capabilities of this car.
A 5.2-litre, wonderful sounding V10 engine, 602hp, 0-60 in 3.2 seconds and a top speed of a staggering 205 mph… Audi’s world-renowned Quattro all-wheel-drive system keeps you planted to the ground through any corner and can send 100% of power to each axel independently. The 7-speed twin-clutch automatic transmission is absolutely flawless and shifts in milliseconds and when doing so, a glorious noise exits the exhaust. The power feels endless as you soar through the rev range and as you occasionally look down at your tac, you’ll see the numbers climbing rapidly too. Obviously, the faster you go, the more stopping power you need and that’s why this car is fitted with a set of 15″ carbon-ceramic brake disks on the front and 14″ on the rear. Think about that, 15 inches of brake disk! And oh yeah, the front callipers have 6 pistons pushing your pads to that disk – slamming on these brakes would be like crashing into a solid brick wall…
