Underneath the bonnet we have the four wheel drive 2.0 Diesel engine with a 6 speed automatic box which produces 134 bhp and 37.2 mpg in return. The new Sportage takes the successful recipe from the seven-seat Sorento and scales it down into a smart, high-quality and spacious compact crossover. The Sportage’s high-riding chassis doesn’t exactly devour corners, but it provides a very comfortable trade-off between sportiness and comfort. It’s one of the better drivers’ cars in the crossover class, with sweet steering, a light but positive Automatic shift that matches the engine’s calm power delivery and decent pace. The Sportage has Kia’s hallmark ‘tiger-nose’ grille and it works well with the tall bonnet to give it a bold look. The roof slopes neatly towards the rear, but not to the extent of spoiling rear headroom. The headlamps sweep well back along the outer edges of the bonnet. Quad ‘ice-cube’ LED foglights are becoming an interesting feature of the latest Kia models and work very nicely with the GT-Line. The Sportage scored a five-star safety rating in Euro NCAP tests. Six airbags are standard – driver and front passenger, first row side airbags, and first and second row curtain airbags. Two IsoFix child-seat tethers and three anchor points are fitted to the second row of seats so the safety was a very big priority when designing and building the GT-Line.

The Sportage has a 3.5-inch mono display in the centre of the dashboard , All models get a 7-inch coloured touchscreen infotainment screen featuring reversing camera display with dynamic parking lines, while satellite navigation is all as standard on the GT-Line , All the infotainment systems feature Bluetooth hands-free connectivity with Aux and USB ports for smartphones and MP3 music players such as Spotify. The KIA also comes the very clever autononomus braking , fully heated leather front seats and a heated steering wheel so them cold winter mornings will be an absolute delight as your hands will be lovely and warm in no time.

Passenger room is increased, with headroom and legroom both improved. In the rear, the floor is 40 mm lower (without any loss of ground clearance). Combining that with a higher rear seat hip-point mean there’s significantly better comfort. If one of you passengers are around six foot tall they will still have plenty of leg and head room with many thanks to the improved passengers height space and leg room. The Sportage’s reclining rear seats have seven steps to let you juggle with passenger comfort and luggage space meaning long distance journeys will be an absolute delight.

Personally the Kia Sportage is a very stylish family wagon built to a high standard and selling at an attractive price. A combination of good interior space, comfort and quiet cabin should definitely see it taking a place on any families’ short list.
