The BMW 118D 2.0 TDI 141bhp engine falls into the middle of both economy and performance giving you a very respectable 55mpg in return which personally I think is great but if you are very careful with your driving style the 1 series can reach up to 70mpg wow !. The 1 series never feels short of power as that punch is always there when needed. All 1 Series get BMW’s range of EfficientDynamics technologies. As well as stop-start, the 118d has brake energy recovery and EcoPro driving mode, which optimises the throttle and climate control to boost fuel efficiency giving you many smiles per miles but also having that performance also making driving the 1 series an even more of a delight. Rear-wheel drive is still the way to go for pure driving thrills. The steering is communicative and the balanced chassis means the 1 Series is very rewarding to drive fast. This is helped by a crisp six-speed automatic gearbox, thick-rimmed steering wheel and low-slung seating position.

M Sport model features deeper front and rear bumpers, 18″ sliver M-Sport alloy wheels more than enough to ensure the 118d outshines its rivals. Up front, there are new headlights, larger chrome-set kidney grilles and larger air intakes in the lower valance. It’s a fairly subtle facelift design-wise, but from a premium brand out to protect residual values, this is understandable.

The interior has an air of high quality , M Sport fully heated seats are trimmed with the lovely full black leather ,the sports seats are some of the best in the business and position the driver deep into the car. They’re also superbly bolstered and hold your torso firmly in place whenever enthusiasm gets the better of you. While the steering wheel and gearlever also get M branding,  The dash has a straightforward layout, and the optional 6.5-inch widescreen sat-nav display fitted to our car provides crystal-clear mapping. Once you are sat inside the cabin everything feels very snug which really does give you that M-Sport feeling. Automatic air conditioning, automatic headlights and wipers, keyless ignition, heated door mirrors, tyre pressure monitors, rear parking sensors, sport plus ,comfort and eco modes, cruise control, a BMW Professional-spec radio with DAB and an iDrive multimedia system with 6.5in control display and sat-nav all come as standard.
