Powered by the 4.5-liter V8, the 458 Italia makes 563BHP at 9000 rpm and ( 398 ft-lbs ) of torque at 6000 rpm, enabling a 0-60 mph time of 3.3 seconds which is heart stoppingly fast. It is at this point you turn on the ignition, thumb the big red starter button on the left-hand side of the steering wheel, and remember why god saw fit to bless humanity with the Ferrari V8. The 458 Italia sounds like an F1 car with its balls dropped. It purrs into life with a velvety rumble that sounds like a slight fast idle – no chugging and a couple of quick blips see the revs snap to attention and fall away with the speed you can only associate with the natural aspiration.The Italia becomes a pleasant little alchemist of sensation, spins a web filled with immediate, simple joy. Then there are the inlet wings. These angle air upwards so enough is pushed through the radiators at low speeds but they then deform to reduce drag at higher speeds, when you don’t need such a large inlet area for adequate cooling. These wings also generate downforce. Also the vents below the rear lights are for radiators to cool the gearbox and clutch.

Beyond its sexy exterior and head-turning growl, the Italia is, at its root, a very good means of transport. The 458’s cabin is spacious for two and is well dressed in the finest leathers with surprisingly very comfortable special coloured Giallo modena stitching seats, extra ample head, leg, and shoulder room, and a level of quality to its build and materials surpassed only by the truly hyper luxurious. The protruding, almost abstract-looking vents give the dashboard the appearance of wrapping around the driver, and with most of the controls placed on the steering wheel or to the right of the driver, it is an extremely driver-focused cabin .However, luggage space, restricted to what you can fit under the bonnet, is actually quite good for such a manically focused car.
